Taconic’s Advanced PTFE Coated Glass Fabric Composites for the Renewables Industry

Taconic’s PTFE-coated glass fabric composites are engineered to provide superior performance across various sectors of the renewables industry. Renowned for their exceptional non-stick properties, high-temperature resistance, chemical inertness, and superior barrier protection against gases, fluids, and resins, our products are the top choice for key players in the photovoltaic and solar panel lamination sectors.
Applications in Photovoltaic Cell/Wafer Stringing
In the production of solar panels, individual solar cells, typically 6-inch squares, need to be electrically connected through soldering to form strings. These strings are then linked together to create a complete, electrically connected panel. A common panel size measures 3 feet 3 inches in width by 6 feet 5 inches in length, comprising 72 solar cells. The soldering process, critical for forming these connections, is conducted on a PTFE-coated conveyor equipped with small vacuum holes. This setup ensures that the cells remain flat and secure during the soldering process, as the vacuum holds the cells in place while the stringer wire is laid on top and welded to one side of the solar panel.

Applications in Finished Panel Lamination

Once the stringing process is completed, the electrically connected cells are encapsulated within a sandwich structure to produce a weatherproof solar panel. This structure consists of EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) layers on both sides of the cells, a top sheet of reinforced tempered glass, and a PV (polyvinyl) sheet on the back. The 5-ply sandwich is subjected to heat and pressure for about 20 minutes, during which pre-heating, lamination, and cooling take place to seal the panel and ensure it is weatherproof. Taconic’s PTFE-coated fabrics and belts serve as the release sheets in this process, providing high-temperature resistance and excellent release properties.
Key Products for Photovoltaic Applications
– Press Covers and Release Sheets: Our PTFE-coated glass fabric products, including models 9108-3, 7108, and Tacfuse 10 AS, are ideal for use as press covers, while our 7058 and 5108 models are effective as release sheets between the press cover and solar cell module.
– Conveyor Belts: The conveyor belt used in the lamination process can be constructed from Taconic’s PTFE-coated glass fabrics, such as Tacfuse 14AS, 7148, 7108, 9108-3, or Tacfuse 10AS. Additionally, models 7108 and 9108-3 can be utilized as protective fabrics between the conveyor belt and the heat chamber.
– Specialized Products: Tacfuse 10AS and Tacfuse 14AS offer high strength, smooth, non-marking, anti-static surfaces, along with excellent thermal transfer. Models 5108, 7108, 7148, and 9108-3 provide both high strength and excellent release, ensuring smooth operation and reliable performance.
